[Art Inside] Superb Owl Prints, Drawing Unicorns in Times of Trouble, and some Inside Baseball

Short Month, short letter!

Hi Reader,

Did you guys see the Superb Owl for this year?

I'm actually really proud of this one. It's so much looser than I usually let myself be with an acrylic painting, like I'm finally letting myself have a little fun instead of having to prove I know how to render a subject.

The original is on its way to its forever home, but prints are available and through the end of March, they'll all contribute to the Superb Owl donation, which thanks to the Philadelphia Eagles, will be going to the Philadelphia Metro Wildlife center.

What's the Point of Drawing Unicorns When the World is On Fire?

I've been blogging a lot lately, like it's 2006 or something. I wrote a post recently about art as a survival tactic for Interesting times. You can read that here.

Trust the Process (But Swear a Lot)

Speaking of blogging, I'm taking a little risk over on the Creative Services side of the business by offering a paid subscription blog with an inside look at growing Sharptooth Snail as a business. I think it will mostly be of interest to clients and folks who took my course Make It Real, but for those of you who may be interested in some form of patronage to support my art and design practice, you can do that here.

That's it for now. Looking for more ways to bring the fun like it's my job, because it kind of is.

See you on the internet,

—Veronica

With Very Few Apologies to Shepard Fairey This is more philosophical than legal, and I might be ruled in the wrong if I get hit with a takedown, but whatever, I'll risk it while I make my little treatise on street art and soverignty. The thing is, pasteups and slaps are illegal, but they are a part of the urban landscape. Who do they belong to, and who gets to iterate on them? I would argue that once they are public, they belong to all of us.Who do the Hollywood Hills belong to? The lions were...

Happy Superb Owl 10! Right back where we started from…. Ten years ago I got out some ink and painted a barn owl while the Super Bowl was on, and decided to auction it off for charity. The project got some legs and I did it again, and again, and again, and now it has been a whole decade of Superb Owl paintings, and just about a thousand dollars raised for wildlife rehabs in cities (okay, mostly Kansas City) all over the country. I happen to be on the road this week, but I didn’t want this...
