[Art Inside] Coloring books for LA, Things I ate in Japan, and this year's Suberb Owl

Janu-what now?

Hi Reader,

Soooo... 2025 is off to a start already, isn't it?

I know a lot of you are, like me, in Southern California, and if you're affected by the fires (and it has affected all of us, to varying degrees), my heart is with you.

We're safe where we are on the floor of the Valley, but friends in every direction had to evacuate, and some lost their homes.

So now we've got to work together to do the rebuilding.

I'm not the most cash-flush person in the world, but I want to help, so I'm shifting the first coloring book to focus on LA (mostly wildlife) themes and will be donating some of the proceeds to the folks who run the Watch Duty app, which was and is indispensable, and to direct aid for people who are having to put their lives back together.

If you or somebody you know has a GoFundMe that needs funding, let me know. I'll add them to the list of beneficiaries.

Watch the shop for the coloring book release, and keep an eye on your inbox.

Meanwhile, my partner and I had a trip planned and left two days after the fires started, and once we were pretty sure the house was going to be okay, we were happy to get out of the smoke...

I Went to Japan and Ate EVERYTHING*

Friends and family are waiting for me to edit my pictures (of which I didn't take nearly enough), and I'm over here drawing cartoons of everything I ate instead.

This was the first time I had ever been to Japan. I've wanted to go for most of my life, and I was not disappointed.

I'll be compiling all the drawings of everything I ate over on my blog, so keep an eye out there for new posts.

This Year's Superb Owl is Spoken For!

Thanks to a generous patron, this year's Superb Owl has been purchased in advance of my actually painting it!

We've seen this matchup before (and let's be real, at this point I have a relationship with the Lakeside Nature Center in Kansas City, but because I do actually expect the Eagles to put up a fight I have the Philadelphia Metro Wildlife Center paperclipped as well.)

(also, when did I become a person who knows things about football?)

Prints of this year's Superb Owl will be made available for preorder at kickoff on February 9th, and I'll get them out to you as soon as I can get them scanned.

That's it from me for now. Hope you and yours are well and happy and finding time for joy. Give your dogs a little pat from me, and tell your cats I say hi.

See you on the internet,

—Veronica

Reader, it's COLD Outside! I know, nobody wants to hear the Californian complain about the cold, when she means like, 50 degrees, but it's all relative! Fortunately, my ancient Cintiq is toasty warm when I'm drawing on it, so that can only be a good thing for the art offerings this winter. The Long-Awaited Coloring Collection Is Here! The week between Christmas and New Years has a reputation for being a time without time... what day is it? Who knows! Do you have plans? Probably not. It's a...

Hey there, Reader I’m doing a ton of traveling right now, but I wanted to say hello and introduce the new format for the Infrequently Updated Newsletter, which I’ve finally decided to name [Art Inside] after the note I write on the envelopes when I ship my prints (“Do Not Bend— Art Inside”). Do you have anything you’re interested in seeing or hearing about? Let me know! Just reply to this email; it’ll land right in my inbox. This was started over the Pacific and finished over the Gulf of...
